An ASL Interpreting Workshop With Julie Simon, Ph.D., CI, CT
Saturday, October 6 from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Please join us for a one-day seminar presented by Julie Simon on improving your use of 3 dimensional space while in academic settings. During the workshop participants will learn how to effectively use space and spatial placement when interpreting in K-12 and post-secondary settings with special focus on maps, graphs and charts. We will practice voice-to-sign techniques using different forms of media.
Julie Simon has been an ASL/English Interpreter for over 25 years, and an interpreter educator for over 17 years in both pre-service (academic) settings and in-service settings. She holds certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CI & CT) and has served on the Board of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers. Julie received her doctorate from the University of Arizona in Language, Reading and Culture, and her masters from Boston University in Deaf Education/ASL Studies. Prior to opening The Language Door, Julie served for over 11 years as Administrator for the Western Region (formerly Region X) Interpreter Education Center at Western Oregon University.
NorCRID is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Professional Studies Program is offered for .75 CEUs at the little/some level.
The fee for the workshop is $99. We will meet from 9 am-5:30 pm with an hour break for lunch.
