"The Glass Menagerie"
Kaleidoscope Players presents "The Glass Menagerie", a play by Tennessee Williams. "The Glass Menagerie", directed by Jan Julia, features Scotty Vinnacombe as TOM, Amy Jo Schaefer as AMANDA, Shannon Felletter as LAURA, and Patrick Murphy as JIM.
"The Glass Menagerie" came for the then-obscure Tennessee Williams after a lengthy string of near misses, more than two years before writing his hugely successful "A Streetcar Named Desire". After nearly closing in Chicago for lack of ticket sales in 1944, it went on to win the coveted New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play of the Year in 1945. Largely autobiographical, "The Glass Menagerie" depicts Williams' own family, particularly his mother who was born into Southern aristocracy and her genteel anguish raising the restless Tom and his fragile sister, Laura, during the Great Depression - alone, deserted by their father. One of the most lyrical plays ever written, "The Glass Menagerie" balances poetry with a ceaseless awareness of decadence, striving, suppressed sexuality, uninhibited imagination, and theatricality.
