Australian-based physical theatre company The Leaps, in association with The Dance Complex, presents the world premier of PERCH.
A man in an owl costume watches over a sleeping woman. As the night unfolds, his imagination launches into wild flight, revealing a shared past and an old betrayal. Was their first date many years ago merely a disaster, or did something altogether more sinister occur?
PERCH runs for 60 minutes, with no interval.
Written by Sarah Carradine & Brian Carbee Performed by Brian Carbee Directed by Sarah Carradine Costume design by Julie Nelson Original score by Lachlan Bostock
Sarah and Brian have long resumes in theatre, opera, dance and film.
Brian began his dance career on this very stage in 1978 with Impulse Dance Company. He has gone on to perform extensively in New Zealand and Australia. His last American appearance was in Tense Dave, the recipient of a 2005 Bessie Award. His career leapt into film when he wrote In Search of Mike, which premiered at Sundance and paved the way for his debut feature screenplay, Accidents Happen, starring Geena Davis. Sarah is an experienced director and writer, with works ranging from underground cabaret to the stage of the Sydney Opera House. Her chamber opera The Cockatoos, staged by Victorian Opera, was nominated for an AWGie (Australian Writers Guild) Award.
