Gold Discovery Walking Food Tour of Nevada City
Gold Discovery Walking Food Tour of Nevada City explores hidden gem restaurants and eateries in one of California's oldest and most preserved Gold Rush mining towns, Nevada City. About a 1-hour drive from Sacramento, Nevada City is famed for its church steeples that rise above the Sierra foothills, homes that are registered with the Nevada County Historical Society. Wander through former gold assay offices, saloons, and foundries to find restaurants, wineries, and stores that maintain the look and character of the days when eager miners crowded the town, ready to find their fortune.
Come hungry! This tour is 'lode-ed' with delicious foods from the best cuisine Nevada City has to offer--savor the tastes as you hear the stories of the gold rush, from Nevada City's rough-hewn beginnings to today. We'll try award-winning wines and dish after dish of foods made from fresh, local produce -- tastes the likes of which miners could only dream of. Hear about how Chinese immigrants played a major role in the development of northern California's agricultural dominance, and how without a few determined people, we might be speaking Russian today.
We eat, walk and talk our way through the historic areas, getting the VIP treatment from start to finish. Enough food is served to consider it a substantial meal. Come to Nevada City and learn California's history of boom-and-bust, one taste at a time.
Advanced ticketing is required for this three hour, 1.5 mile gastronomic adventure. Participants must be able to walk the 1.5 miles; the route does include some moderately steep hills. The Gold Discovery Walking Food Tour is offered on Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:45 am and ends approximately 3 hours later. Private tours can be scheduled 6 days a week at various times.
