Wines from the New Ancient Lakes AVA
Imagine this instead of a fall Y.E.S. bus trip exploring different wine areas, Y.E.S. members are sitting in the comfort of the Yakima Valley Museum sipping wine from a brand new AVA (in process) and enjoying appetizers matched with the wines created by chef Jessica Smith. This is what will be happening at the October tasting. Four well regarded
wineries from the Quincy area, Jones of WA, Millbrandt
Vineyards, Saint Laurent Winery and White Heron Cellars will be pouring wines from grapes grown in this new region and discussing why the decision was made to create a new AVA known as Ancient Lakes. They will be able to answer questions about the terroir of the region which makes the grapes grown there unique.

We will start the evening with a 2010 Viognier greeting wine from Jones of WA. As the program begins we will compare
and contrast the style of a 2009 Riesling from Millbrandt
Vineyards with a 2009 Riesling from Saint Laurent Winery. We will then move on to compare a 2009 Estate Evergreen Chardonnay from Millbrandt Vineyards with a 2005 Chardonnay from White Heron. We will next taste a 2007 Merlot from
Saint Laurent Winery followed by a 2003 Malbec from White Heron. Finally we will finish the evening with a 2008 Cabernet Franc from Jones of WA. Each varietal will be paired with an appropriate dish to enhance the wine
flavors.

Come prepared with your questions for the knowledgeable winery representatives and settle in for an educational evening  along with great food and excellent wine. Remember, you will be able to order any wines from our evening's event to be delivered later at Stems in downtown Yakima.
