Me & Myself
Columbiana native Jim Couchenour will use a blend of acting, video and live music to portray his life with Tourette Syndrome (TS). The theater production is called me & myself and chronicles the musician's life with TS, a disorder that manifests itself in vocal grunts, body tics, and in some extreme cases, blurting out inappropriate words. me & myself portrays TS as a constant "haunting entity" that continuously brought unexplained tensions, since he wasn't actually diagnosed with the disorder until well into his adult life. Actual life events are used as the basis for the entire show.
"I spent years trying to figure out what this was and why I did these things" recalls Couchenour. "There just wasn't that much information when I was growing up with it". Couchenour describes his life with TS as a journey of "denial, discovery, surrender and freedom". The production builds to the poignant moment when he finally discovers what TS is, and reconciles his struggle with it.
me & myself will be shown at the Main Street Theater in Columbiana, OH on October 30 and 31 at 8:00PM.
