Make Music LIVE! Presents Cyprian Consiglio
Make Music LIVE! is a music series that embraces music traditions outside of the mainstream music industry Pop/Rock format. Currently there are four concerts in each series:
Jazz - "Americas Classical Music"
Indian Classical
World Fusion ~ Creative music from all areas of the world including North America
Sacred Sounds ~ Music that embraces the worlds wisdom and healing traditions.
Cyprian Consiglio is a Camaldolese Benedictine monk, musician, composer, author and teacher, from the community of New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur, CA. After his initial formative years, he spent ten years living in a hermitage near Santa Cruz, California.
During that period he also traveled extensively performing and teaching. Much of both his music and his teaching revolve around the Universal Call to Contemplation through spirituality and the arts. He has six collections of original music recorded and published through OCP Publications, three others released through the Equilibrium label with his long time collaborator, percussionist John Pennington, and several independent releases. He is also a member of the Collegeville Composers Group, the ensemble responsible for the Psallite: Songs for Liturgy and Life project for Liturgical Press.
A student of the writings of Bede Griffiths and Abhishiktananda, Cyprian has a great love for comparative religion, and besides several articles he has published a book "Prayer in the Cave of the Heart" also for Liturgical Press, based on wisdom culled from his experience and studies, and is currently working on a second volume, "Spirit, Soul and Body: Toward an Integral Christian Spirituality." He has been to India numerous times as well as other countries in Europe, Asia, and the Mideast, performing as well as studying and teaching.
Besides concerts and recording, Cyprian regularly leads retreats and conferences on prayer and meditation, and has also completed Yoga Teacher Training at Mount Madonna Center near Santa Cruz, CA. He has done extensive work in inter-faith dialogue and serves on the board of the Bede Griffiths Trust and the US branch of MIDMonastic Inter-religious Dialogue, and was the founder of Sangha Shantivanam in Santa Cruz. He currently lives back with the community in Big Sur.
Make Music LIVE! provides live concert performances of local, national and international artists performing in diverse genres. The series will consistently involve greater San Francisco and Monterey Bay Area musicians.
This performance will be recorded and attended locally at Inner Light Center in Soquel. Sacred sounds will be streamed live for audiences in the U.S and abroad.
Make Music LIVE! is a nonprofit organization that offers live and live streaming concerts by world class artists in 4 distinctly different genres. These genres of music are distinguished by the fact that they are not readily available in local clubs or bars. Make Music LIVE! offers subscriptions to live streaming concerts that can be watched at the time of the show or anytime after. By becoming a subscriber to Make Music LIVE! you help bring new and talented artists onto the global internet stage and keep alive music traditions that don't fit the pop industry formula. The artists benefit by having their music live streamed over the internet to an audience here in the states and abroad finding supporters in 'far away' places. Having a fan base that supports these noncommercial forms of music can be the difference between a workable career as an artist or struggling to survive with a part time job.
