Macbeth
Dram Tree Shakespeare presents William Shakespeare's MACBETH for its first full production. MACBETH is considered by some critics as Shakespeare's darkest play. This Scottish tragedy tells the tale of the military-accomplished Macbeth's murderous rise to power and the guilt-ridden pathology of evil deeds generating still more evil deeds. Macbeth and his partner in crime, Lady Macbeth, lead us through a phantasmagorical realm of witchcraft, insomnia and madness. ("Introduction" eNotes Publishing Ed. The play's production design will be influenced by the industrial feel of the empty McEachern's warehouse space located in the heart of downtown Wilmington, NC. "We will use the architecture of the warehouse as our touchstone," Dram Tree's artistic director Chris Marino says"raw, angular, dangerous, moody, metal, and primal." Marino, a UNCW theater professor was former artistic director of Baltimore Shakespeare Festival and was formerly on faculty at the Shakespeare Theater Company in Washington, DC. He has experience at numerous universities and theater in the US and England, including Utah Shakespeare Festival, Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, Stella Adler in New York City and George Washington University. Marino will be working closely with Production Designer, Max Lydy, also from UNCW, to fully realize this audience-immersive and innovative production concept.
In keeping with Dram Tree Shakespeare's mission to engage and give back to the community, this production of MACBETH will open with a choreographed combat scene outfitted with local military veterans. Dram Tree has also donated opening night tickets to military veterans and family members through VetTix. Anyone wishing to donate additional tickets for our local military can do so through our ticketing outlet, Brown Paper Tickets.
Dram Tree is excited to announce our cast for first full length production.
