Butoh Lab: Fall 2011 with Nicole LeGette
Hedwig Dances in cooperation with blushing poppies productions presents Butoh LAB: Fall 2011 taught by Nicole LeGette on Monday evenings, October 17 - November 14, 2011, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. (5 weeks) at the Chicago Cultural Center, 1st Floor Dance Studio, 78 East Washington (at Michigan Avenue). This forum explores essential components of butoh training for participants who seek a rich, vibrant, challenging and rigorous experience of multi-sensory, body-based expression. Each class will introduce specific techniques while synthesizing and integrating student's input and level of experience. No previous dance or butoh training is necessary, but be ready for deep concentration and transformation!
Nicole LeGette, blushing poppy productions, is the epicenter for butoh activities in Chicago for nearly 10-years, and the Midwest advocate and resource, performer, teacher and producer. Since 2003, blushing poppy productions has presented countless international, national, and local butoh artist events through innovative partnerships with organizations in Chicago and across the US. Since 2000, Nicole has trained with master butoh artists in Japan, Mexico, Canada, and the US including; Yoshito Ohno, Natsu Nakajima, and Diego Pinon. Since 2007, Nicole has investigated multi-sensory, body-based movement practice for the elderly and people with mobility, cognitive, and sensory impairment through classes, collaboration and research. A graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nicole studied body-based performance art and sculpture. She is an accomplished amateur cellist and seasoned yoga instructor. This multi-sensory arts foundation continues to inform Ms. LeGette's approach to embodied imagination, performance and teaching.
Nicole was selected Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artist (2007-2008) and Chicago Dancemakers Forum Mentor Artist (2011) and has received numerous grants from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events (2002-2011) and Chicago Seminar on Dance and Performance (2007). Ms. LeGette's performance has been presented throughout the US, Mexico and Japan. Although primarily a solo performer, Nicole routinely collaborates with musicians and develops ensemble works for theater, dance, and performance. In 2010, Ms. LeGette began collaborating with Dai Matsuoka, member of internationally known butoh company, Sankai Juku.
