Painting By Memory
Late in his life, Mayer Kirshenblatt began painting scenes from his childhood in pre-Holocaust Poland, "lest future generations know more about how Jews died than how they lived." Come travel back in time through the memories captured in "They Called Me Mayer July." Experience Kirshenblatt's enchanting depictions of the ebb and flow of Polish-Jewish life in an exchange between Mayer and his daughter, Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett, who has collected stories from him over the past forty years.
This event is presented as part of the First Person Festival of Memoir and Documentary Art, November 7-11. For more information, see www.firstpersonarts.org.
