Solo Sketch Comedy Class
Get your solo work on! If you've been in a creative rut, and/or you lack written material, this solo comedy class will get you in gear. It's also a great jumpstart if you're thinking about doing a solo show. Taught by all-around comedian Paul Thomas, the class focuses on crafting structurally sound scenes, creating multi-faceted characters, and performing with confidence.
The Instructor:
A jackass of all comedy trades, Paul Thomas recently performed solo sketches in the Just for Laughs Chicago and SketchfestNYC. He is a former member of the Defiant Thomas Brothers, winners of Best Sketch Group at HBO's 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.
Paul is also a stand-up comic, and is a cast member of Chicago Underground Comedy, a stand-up showcase. Every Thursday he hosts Happy Hour, a solo workshop/show at The Playground Theater.
He also makes short films. Some of his work has screened at the Just for Laughs Festivals in Montreal and Chicago, the L.A. Comedy Shorts Festival, and the Midwest Independent Film Festival, amongst others.
Paul, Jeff Madden, and Cork Kangas comprise Lola Balatro, the post-grunge acoustic com-rock band that is scorching the earth with hits like "I Got 2 Black Friends" and "Questionable Beef."
