In A Far Cry's season opener, the orchestra takes its programmatic cue
from a cell, which constantly divides as it grows. From the single unified
voice of Arvo Pärt's "Fratres" to the double echos of Vaughan Williams's
"Tallis Fantasia" to the three-part conversation in Steve Reich's "Triple
Quartet," complexity creeps in, finally culminating with two of the great
fugues of Western music: Bach's unfinished completion of "The Art of
Fugue" and Beethoven's "Grosse Fuge.
