Building Positive Racial Identities
This workshop is designed to help students of color develop positive racial identities in ways that promote resilience and academic success. Using video and artwork created by students from the Blue Ribbon Mentor Advocate program to help participants understand why racial identities matter and how youth development workers can embed support for positive racial identities into their existing practices. Topics to include the following:
*The Research: Why Positive Racial Identity Development is a Necessary Precursor for Academic Success *Understanding Racial Identity Development Patterns *Leveraging the Power of Parents and Professionals to Support Racial Identity Development *Student Voices: Exploring Student Expressions of Racial Identity
