HOPE IS IN ME: YMCAs across the country are a positively known and accepted part of the American landscape, usually associated with gyms, weight rooms or pools; but a small, Central New York YMCA decided to create a music education program to give kids something to do after school other than sports. In doing so, the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is helping to expand the profile and mission of YMCAs across the country. "Hope Is In Me  A Musical Journey" is a film that bears witness to the power of a positive idea whose time has come.

After winning performance and character awards year after year, the aptly named YMCA Center for the Creative Arts (YCCA) scheduled a trip to New Orleans to perform at the famed Preservation Hall. One of America's great tragedies, Hurricane Katrina, canceled the trip. Undaunted, the Y brought New Orleans to New York. More and more musicians heard of the program, which led to a recording project featuring over 30 national recording artists mentoring and playing with the Y kids, including several Grammy winners and nominees. The results were stunning, which led to this inspirational story of hope, dreams fulfilled and life lessons. Artists involved include Jennifer Warnes, Bill Medley, Brian O'Neal of the Busboys, The Boys & Girls Choir of Harlem, Melba Moore, and a host of New Orleans traditionalists.

The YCCA program continues to grow and produce wonderful, surprising results. Some recent highlights include having "There Is A Beacon", one of the songs on the accompanying

"Hope Is In Me" CD, being admitted into the permanent archives at Ellis Island. Another song

"Where Are They" is being used as the theme for the Ride For Missing Children.

One of the most heartfelt stories in the film is that of Jennifer Warnes' visit to her father's birthplace to learn and reconnect with her family history. Through such stories, lives weaved in and out of each other, with music as the common thread. It is a small, but powerful reminder of what the spirit of hope can do to encourage, support and inspire young people, and why sharing our talents and time with each other is the most meaningful gift of all.

LOSING CONTROL (Q & A in this theater only):a fresh and funny independent film that explores the universal idea that, at some point, everyone fears somewhere in their heart, that there is a "right" way to find love, and that they might be going about it the wrong way. LOSING CONTROL is a quirky romantic comedy about a female scientist who wants proof that her boyfriend is "the one." Evoking a light-hearted and clever tone, LOSING CONTROL is the story of a charmingly neurotic Harvard graduate student whose life doesn't't seem to be working out the way she planned. Frustrated by life's unpredictability and determined to apply scientific principles to her love life, she sets off on a series of wild dating adventures  a journey that ultimately leads to her understanding that nothing can be controlled and that life is indeed more about the ride than the destination.
