Molly Sweeney
Timshel Theatre Company presents a dramatic reading of "Molly Sweeney" by Brian Friel "Molly Sweeney" examines the terrible consequences of a modern medical miracle. Told from three very different perspectives, the play raises the issue of who and what determines the quality of our lives. Independent, strong, and content with her life, Molly has been blind since infancy. Her husband Frank, an engaging but restless soul, embraces the idea of restoring her sight as his latest cause. He brings her case to Mr. Rice, a reputedly brilliant surgeon staying in their small Irish town. Once regarded as a leader in his field, Rice is an alcoholic who has retreated from the failures of his marriage and career. He sees Molly's case as an opportunity to prove himself to his peers and regain his stature
Together Frank and Mr. Rice, believing she "has nothing to lose", persuade Molly to undergo the procedure that begins her immersion into a world she cannot comprehend, and in which she ultimately is lost.
