Book Party for "The Zombie of Great Peru," by Pierre-Corneille Blessebois, translated by Doug Skinner
Date: Thursday, August 20th
Time: 8pm
Admission: $5
Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY

"The Zombie of Great Peru" was written in 1697 by Pierre-Corneille Blessebois, murderer, arsonist, libertine, mercenary, galley slave, and man of letters. The book is a memoir of occultism, seduction, slapstick, and humiliation, set in the racial and sexual hothouse of colonial Guadeloupe. It marks the first appearance of the word "zombie." It is now translated for the first time by Doug Skinner, and published by Black Scat Books. Mr. Skinner will talk about the book, and read some juicy parts. Cold drinks will be on hand.

Doug Skinner has contributed to "Fate," "The Fortean Times," "Strange Attractor Journal," "Cabinet," and other fine periodicals. He has written many scores for dance and theater, especially for actor/clown Bill Irwin. His books include a collection of picture stories, "The Unknown Adjective," as well as translations of Alphonse Allais, Isidore Isou, and Giovanni Battista Nazari.
