SON DEL VIENTO DE CHICAGO
Conformado hace 6 años por los músicos chicaguenses de amplia y sólida trayectoria Raúl Fernández (requinto, percusión, y voz) y Jaime Garza (leona y voz), además de Ricardo Salazar (jarana segunda y voz), Jim Hartman (marimbol), Adrian Alcantar (jarana, cajón y voz) y la incorporación de la talentosa joven Maya Fernández (voz, jarana y zapateado), este grupo nos remite a la atinada y fructífera combinación del son veracruzano (jarocho y huasteco), con el viento de resistencia e identidad mexicana y chicana, en esta ciudad de intensos jarochos y jaraneros, que es Chicago (rebautizada por tanto como Jaro-Chicago). Una fiesta sonera del fandango profundo nos invita a zapatear con fervor, al escuchar el amplio repertorio con que Son del Viento contribuye a la imparable celebración de nuestra raíz cultural.
Son del Viento Chicago is a group dedicated to the jarocho music tradition, giving Windy City expression to this centuries-old fusion of Indigenous, Spanish and African culture from the south of Veracruz, México. Son del Viento plays music of the fandango (dance party), where all are invited to gather around the tarima wooden platform to share in rhythm, dance and poetry throughout the night. Son del Viento's members range from long-time son mexicano performers to youthful talent carrying son jarocho into the next generation. SdV members are: Raúl Fernández (requinto, vocals, cajón), Jaime Garza (leona bass,vocals), Ricardo Salazar (jarana, vocals), Maya Fernández (jarana, vocals, zapateo dance, quijada), Jim Hartman (marimbol, vocals), and Adrian Alcantar (jarana, cajón, vocals, dance). Since 2004, Son del Viento has performed at music festivals and cultural and educational programs, including Old Town School of Folk Music, the Art Institute of Chicago, Viva Chicago and opening for Café Tacuba in Chicago.
