FREE Dockside Tour of the DCV Hayward
This important boat is one of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District's three drift collection vessels. It patrols in and around the New York/New Jersey Harbor picking up drift and floatables that could potentially be hazards to navigation and/or the environment.
The DCV Hayward was used as the command vessel for stabilizing and mooring the jetliner, US Airways Flight 1549, which crash landed in the Hudson River.

The DCV Hayward can pick up anything from small floating garbage to timber to small aircraft that crash into the water. It also has firefighting capabilities, can tow and can act as a tug boat.
This tour is excellent for families and groups. Members of the public will be allowed to board DCV Hayward, take a look around and ask questions of the crew members.
Plan to arrive at Governors Island at least 45 minutes before your tour to allow time to participate in the City of Water Day festival and make your way to Yankee Pier. Please arrive to Yankee Pier approximately 30 minutes before departure time. Tickets unclaimed 15 minutes before departure will be made available to standby passengers.
Note: This tour does not leave the dock. This is a tour of the boat.
