Playwriting Workshop: Collage
The Oxford English Dictionary defines collage as, "an abstract form of art in which photographs, pieces of paper, newspaper cuttings, string, etc., are placed in juxtaposition and glued to the pictorial surface; such a work of art." Such principles translate to the stage in the form of questions, character task, relationships, repetition, juxtaposition, mysteries and surprises to create both dramatic tension and a satisfying journey for the audience. During this workshop, we will explore the ins and outs of where collage structure can take a script through writing exercises and collaboration. Please bring along 5-10 inspirations for short scenes. These could be snippets of your own writing, a newspaper article, a page from a book, a quote from a television program, an overheard conversation, a photo, or anything you like. All experience levels of writers are welcome.
