WORDS FIRST is a monthly series featuring a rotating cast of Bay Area solo stars. Each performance showcases a dynamic line-up of four short pieces, written and performed by the solo artists themselves. Join us on the first Wednesday of every month as the finest solo performers, comics, and storytellers take the CounterPULSE stage.

ABOUT THE PRODUCERS:

THAO P. NGUYEN has been writing and performing solo shows since she joined the Solo Performance Workshop in 2007. She will be debuting her full-length one-woman show, "Fortunate Daughter" in the Spring of 2012. Her director, the critically acclaimed W. Kamau Bell (selected "Comedian of the Year" by SF Weekly, SF Bay Guardian, the East Bay Express, and 7x7 Magazine), has awarded her with the coveted "W. Kamau Bell Solo Performance Black Belt," a distinction which to this date has been awarded only four times. Thao has produced such successful shows as "DIS-ORIENTED: A trio of Middle Eastern and Asian American women," "ATYPICAL: Stories from the anomalous Asian American," "See Mom, I Didn't Forget!", "Best Feeding," "City Solo" and, of course, San Francisco's premier solo series, "Words First".

VANESSA ALABARCES started writing and performing her own solo shows in 2011 when she joined the Solo Performance Workshop. She's been subjecting friends, family and random strangers to solo "shows" since she was a precocious child. As a precocious adult, Vanessa is working on her solo performance craft, organizing women of color artists in creative collaborations and co-producing the kick-ass Words First series.
