The Miser, Molière's classic comedy of manners.
Student-produced and student-directed performances of The Miser, Molière's classic comedy of manners, will be held June 8, 11, and 12 in Edmonds Community College's Black Box Theater in Mukilteo Hall. The performance times are: 7:30 p.m, Wed., June 8; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sat., June 11; and 2 p.m., Sun., June 12. Tickets cost $6 for students and $8 general. Harpagon, the title character of The Miser, wishes to marry off his daughter Élise to a wealthy older man who requests no dowry. For his son Cléante, he has chosen a widow, and he intends for himself to marry Marianne, a much younger girl. However, he is unaware that Élise is secretly in love with Valère, who is posing as his servant and yes-man, and that Marianne and Cléante are in love. Hilarity and confusion ensue as Harpagon's plans go awry.
This production of the 17th century comedy will incorporate modern dress. The director, Ian Wight, and cast and crew are currently students and members of Edmonds Community College's Theatre Arts Student Organization, a student club.
