Forgiving John Lennon
The Telluride Playwrights Festival collaborates with the University of Wyoming in a new production of "Forgiving John Lennon" by William Missouri Downs. "Forgiving John Lennon" is a new and clever comedy/drama about Joseph and Katie, two professors in a small college town happily living in the land of tenure. Their predictable lives are slowly shattered by the arrival of a young girl called Asma, a poet from Somalia. They have invited her to give a keynote speech to their students. It slowly dawns on them that not only have they invited this sweet young girl into their home, but along with her small bag, she has brought them an invitation. One they are powerless to turn down. One that once opened forces them to look into the heart of terror and all that they hold dear.
This shattering, thought provoking, timely play is an invitation to everyone to examine beliefs and imaginings of a world where there is "nothing to kill or die for". Can it be done?
