Ugly Art Room is a roving curatorial art project based in Brooklyn, New York. We seek unusual and unique spaces to curate art exhibits in order to challenge the "white box" gallery tradition and present work in consideration of its relationship to its environment physically, conceptually and historically. This adds a challenge to the curatorial process where context is brought to the forefront and a story develops between the artwork and the space. Ultimately, a unique and inspiring viewing experience results.

Ugly Art Room will produce five shows during the Northside Open Studios, which is part of the L Magazine's Northside Music and Art Festival, June 16-19th, 2011:

The Man, The Myth, The Moustache, a solo exhibition of Scott Chasse's Burt Reynold's paintings at Brouwerij Lane (78 Greenpoint Ave) a Beer Store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Watch the promotional video here. Opening reception: Thursday, June 16, 8-10pm

Jetway, an outdoor site-specific installation by Andrew Ohanesian's on Bedford Ave, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn during Williamsburg Walks, June 18 & June 19th.

Noise Jam, at The Gutter Brooklyn (200 No. 14th St), in which musicians participating in the Northside Music Festival will submit cell phone photos to explore the accessibility of experiences. See the open call statement. Opening reception: June 16, 2011, 10pm-12am.

Cutters, a group exhibition at the The Parlour Brooklyn (72 Greenpoint Ave) a hair salon in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. See the open call statement. Opening reception: Saturday June 18th, 2011, 8-10pm

Pull the Devil's Tail, a group exhibition of print work at the Greenpoint Reformed Church (136 Milton St) in Brooklyn. Guests will take turns to "pull the Devil's tail," on an antique iron hand press in the church basement. See the open call statement. Opening reception: Saturday, June 18th, 2011, 6-8pm.
