Event
Jungle Kings- a new play by Rain Wilson.
A dynamic piece that will break chains and create openings for dialogue for those who want to take a deeper look at the trials that our young boys are up against as they fight to become men. The play deals with the imprisonment of the mind, with a focus on the character Baby Cockroach. He was named in the streets and paid his dues in the streets. He was sentenced to 25 years and now is up for parole. He has not changed, and looks to get out so that he can go back to the streets to the same life he had. Two forces come into his life right before his parole board hearing. One is there to give him the truth and free his mind, the other is there to keep him controlled by a system of artificial power in the streets. It's a race against time. The play examines how difficult it is to change the thinking that often determines the early fate of our young men. These influences that come from a cycle of defeat that are too often embedded in their communities, homes, schools, and the media - surround and shape the. It is a real war that must happen inside their minds to fight these messages and rise. We watch the struggle that Baby Cockroach and all the other men go through to gain what "power" is to them. It's a fight to the end.
