ADPSR's Utility Scale Renewables Forum
With ever-increasing energy prices, Governor Jerry Brown's recent signing of California's 33% Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) could not have come a moment too soon. The Governor is calling for 20,000 MW of power by 2020, roughly equivalent to Germany's renewable energy growth over the last decade; adjusted for size of economy (Germany is approximately twice as large as California).

ADPSR's Utility Scale Renewables Forum will look at the scale of the roll out with various technologies poised to tap California's vast renewable energy resources - solar, wind, geothermal, and tidal.  Among many questions to be raised are the relative potential and priority for each energy type, and where and how small, medium, and large scale power plants will be deployed across the state.

Moderator:

Laura Wisland, Energy Analyst, Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS)
Ms. Wisland and UCS are focused on increasing the amount of renewable energy in California's energy mix, and provide technical and policy analysis to legislative and regulatory agencies to successfully guide implementation of the state's Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS).

Panelists:

Arthur Haubenstock, Chief Counsel & Director of Regulatory Affairs, BrightSource Energy
Mr. Haubenstock is responsible for a wide variety of renewable energy legal and policy issues at BrightSource Energy, a leading developer of large-scale solar power plants, and is President of the Large-scale Solar Association.

Roy Phillips, President/CEO, REP Energy, Inc.
Mr. Phillips is the Director of CALSEIA, Chairman of the Feed-in Tariff Committee, and Chairman of the Workforce Training Committee.  He works with legislators and policy makers at both the state and federal level.

Carl Zichella, Director of Western Transmission, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Mr. Zichella leads NRDC's efforts to ensure that environmental protections are fully evaluated in siting and transmission planning across the West.
