Bethune Legacy Seattle Section NCNW
The Seattle Section National Council of Negro Women will hold their 2nd annual luncheon on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Renton Technical College. The guest speaker will be Dr. Evelyn Bethune, educator, activist advisor and granddaughter of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. Evelyn is the CEO of the Mary McLeod Bethune Educational Legacy Foundation, Inc., founded by the grandchildren of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune to ensure the continuation, growth and development of her legacy of encouraging and promoting education and community service in a variety of platforms.

Dr. Evelyn Bethune states "At the very core of the work of my head, heart and hands, stands the inspiring, awesome, far-reaching legacy of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, touching every volunteer, every vendor, every contractor, every customer, every product and every service provided by the Mary McLeod Bethune Educational Legacy Foundation, Inc. Our purpose is to empower and to take the legacy of a great woman to the next level. Everything we do has a direct relationship to the faith-based concept of "educate to serve."

Dr. Evelyn Bethune is a published author and a dynamic speaker. She is a member of the NAACP, NCNW, on the Academic Advisory Committee for the Houston International Festival, "Out of Africa" and producer of Forward into Freedom exhibit and listening stations. She serves on the Bethune-Cookman University's Women's Advisory. She says her grandmother "was an icon" who came from humble beginnings to become a world-renowned educator, civil rights and human rights leader and advisor to U.S. presidents.

Bethune said her grandmother would want people to know that it's never too late to accomplish something or to improve where you are in life.

Also on the program will be an appearance by Shanelle Leonard, Miss Black Washington USA 2011, a presentation of scarves and head wraps to cancer survivors and a display of proclamations and photos showing the work and service of the National Council of Negro Women, Seattle Section, Rev. LaVerne Corine Hall, President. Please join us for a spiritual, uplifting and inspiring afternoon.
