Please join the Morbid Anatomy Museum as celebrate our one year anniversary with an all day "Festival of Arcane Knowledge" featuring MC Evan Michelson of TV's Oddities and short talks, tours, demonstrations, screenings and projections by our unique community of makers, teachers, collectors and rogue scholars. The day will conclude with a Devil's Masquerade reception/afterparty featuring live music, spectacles, cocktails, auction, and costume contest with prizes for best costume. This night will also be the opening party for our newest exhibition "OPUS HYPNAGOGIA: Sacred Spaces of the Visionary and Vernacular" curated by Stephen Romano for the Morbid Anatomy Museum.
The Festival of Arcane Knowledge will run from 11 am 7:30 pm; beginning with introductory remarks by our Board Chair Tracy Hurley Martin, and feature talks by Harold Schechter on the history of violence in entertainment; Dr. Neal Goldsmith on psychedelics and death (based on his multi-sold out lecture); Douglas Rushkoff on "Living Taxidermy and the Real Housewives of the OC," Jessica Glasscock of the Metropolitan Museum on Fashionable Mourning in the 19th century; alchemist Brian Cotnoir on the use of blood on alchemical preparations; Dan Smith on books bound in human skin; Robert Schneck on "Auto-decapitants;" and Karen Bachmann on spontaneous human combustion. There will also be a show and tell featuring an Egyptian mummy head with Mike Zohn of TV's Oddities; antique masonic magic lantern projections by filmmaker Joel Schlemowitz; requiem listening with Carl Schoonover; new episodes of Morbid Anatomy Presents with filmmaker in residence Ronni Thomas; music from the land of the fairies by Doug Skinner; demonstrations by taxidermist in residence Katie Innamorato and hair artist Karen Bachmann; and presentations by beloved lecturers Amy Herzog, Colin Dickey, and Egyptologist in Residence Ava Vitali. There will also be complementary beer while supplies last.
The Devil's Masquerade will begin at 8 and will include a special appearance of the devil himself; musical performances by Angela Di Carlo and Brooklyn based Milf and Dilf; antique devil film clips curated by David Cory; delightful complimentary cocktails; thematic music by DJ in residence Friese Undine, and a devil costume contest with prizes!
