The setting is a slightly seedy neighborhood bar in the Bronx, where a group of regulars seek relief from the disappointments and tedium of the outside world. Denise Savage, a perennial loner who announces that she is still a virgin, but would like to remedy the situation. She is joined, Linda Rotunda, whose problem has been the oppositetoo many lovers but who is now fearful that her current boyfriend, Tony Aronica, is losing interest in her. And when the macho Tony comes bursting in shortly thereafter and announces that he is leaving her to pursue "ugly girls," Linda is desolate. In between this trio is taciturn bartender, Murk, and  his mixed-up girlfriend, April, a failed nun. The action quickens, moving swiftly from dark comedy to tense confrontation until by the end Savage remains as she wasstill in limbo.

John Patrick Shanley made a name for himself as a writer with Danny and the Deep Blue Seahis first published play. The Bronx native got his Hollywood breakthrough with the romantic comedy, Moonstruck, and won an Oscar for writing the original screenplay. His 2005 play Doubt, won the Pulitzer and a Tony, and the film version was nominated for several Oscars.

Sad Michael was created in 2009 to create the original play The Complex, this was followed up by a production Cindy Lou Johnson's Brilliant Traces. Both productions were well received. Two core members of Sad Michael Randy Dixon (Director), and Lisa Keeton are joined in this production by Susie Simpkins (The Complex), Tony Beeman, Jordi Montes, and Erwin Galan.

Sad Michael presents John Patrick Shanley's Savage in Limbo at the Odd Duck Studio. The show is completely scripted, but audience becomes part of the spontaneous action as the line between performer and audience blurs for as playwright Shanley states: "In a concert play the audience, at least in my mind, is included in the world which the characters inhabit."
