Science: Naomi Oreskes & Erik Conway: Scientists Who Obscure the Truth

Since researchers began examining evidence that our planet is heating up, people have been questioning data, doubting evidence, and attacking the scientists who collect and explain it. Science historians Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, authors of Merchants of Doubt, blame a cadre of high-level scientists and scientific advisers who clouded public interpretation of facts to advance a political and economic agenda-some of the same figures who denied studies linking smoking to lung cancer-and show how ideology and corporate interest can skew public understanding and spread confusion on many of our most important challenges.
