Plein Air Painting Workshop Series
This painting workshop is offered in both Italian and English. A series of workshops in plein air painting in the historic district of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, a district uniquely suited for outdoor work as the streets vary in architecture from the charming old world brownstones, working shops, and churches to the industrial area where the neighborhood borders Gowanus Canal and Red Hook.
The first workshop in the series is geared for beginners. On Sunday, May 8th beginners are welcomed into the basics of plein air sketching during the morning and the use of color during the afternoon. There is a small lecture before the morning outdoor sessions, during lunch before the afternoon outdoor session and a review summary at the end of the day. May 8th is not just for beginners but they are especially welcome.
The following two weekend workshops will have the same format. The first day will be spent gathering images directly from locations. A variety of locations are encouraged so that there is more to choose from for the final images or series of images that are to be the focus of the second day.
The second day is to be spent creating first drafts then final images.
Do note that pricing is different for the two days. Those wishing only a one day workshop should register for Saturday only. Those wishing to take both days should register for Sunday as well (Sunday is at the reduced price reflecting both days). Do note that both weekends are available at a discounted rate. Please call the gallery should you have any questions or Brown Paper Tickets directly at 800.838.3006 x 1 for the call center.
The workshop is from 10 - 6 with an hour for lunch. Do note that the gallery has a backyard. Bringing a bag lunch and working through lunch is encouraged. Coffee and tea will be served. Plenty of ice water will be available.
Students are encouraged to bring their own drawing, painting and paper materials though a large number of materials will be available for you to try (paints, gouaches). Additionally a stock of 25" x 19" Zerkall German Ingres 90 gsm laid paper will be available at the discounted price $1.50 per sheet. Other papers (in small quanties) will also be available. Newsprint and rough gray paper is provided for free.
