Sales at the door will be cash and check only and will be $20 ($15 for youth 12 and under). Dance ethnologist Helene Eriksen began her teaching career researching and performing dances of the Balkans, and celebrated her 30th teaching anniversary in 2010. Throughout her career, Helene has studied a multitude traditional dance forms, from Morrocco to India, including various peoples of Turkey, the Balkans, and the Caucus Mountains, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. This summer event marks the culmination of the 4th Seattle training program and intends to share the rich cultures of the Orient through music, costume, dance, and informational presentations by program participants. About ANAR: Helene Eriksen's Traditional Dance Theatre and ANAR DANA Dance Training Program ANAR means pomegranate in Persian and symbolizes the crystalline beauty of the collective traditions in the Middle East. DANA means seed and, as each seed ripens, the fruit becomes the lucious whole. As students grow in their understanding of cultures and dance technique, they are invited to move from ANAR DANA, the seed, to ANAR, the mature, whole fruit. ANAR DANA will be performing Moroccan Sheikhat, Algerian Arab-Andalusian, a suite of Turkish Selifke dances, two dances from Armenia: Mom Bar and Uzundara, Kurdish and Baluchi traditional dances, and a Persian court dance. ANAR will be performing Afghani Lori, Uzbeki Ferghana, a traditional Tunisian dance, and a Turkish Roman. Eriksen will perform enchanting solo dances. The ancient dance traditions of the predominately Muslim societies of the Orient are largely unknown in the West and are disappearing quickly in our globalized world. Come to these performances to witness and learn about these breathtaking and inspiring traditions with spectacular music, costumes, and dance. Come and celebrate ANAR with us! Information available at www.helene-eriksen.de/anar.html ANAR is supported in part by 4Culture and the King County Lodging Tax
