Annie
Book by Thomas Meehan Music by Charles Strouse Lyrics by Martin Charnin Based on the Tribune Media Service Comic Strip, "Little Orphan Annie"
When a local community theatre had to close its doors, it was in the middle of its rehearsals for a production of "Annie." Heartbroken, the child actors playing the orphans in that now defunct production believed they'd never get their chance to have their moment in the spotlight. Thus our production was born. The students of Oakmont High School's Theatre Department decided to give these "orphans" a place to call home and a spotlight to call their own. Come and see this collaboration of community theatre meets educational drama as the high school and youth actors work together to present to the timeless classic "Annie."
For more information, read the below description from Musical Theatre International's website: "Leapin' Lizards! The popular comic strip heroine takes centerstage in one of the world's best-loved musicals. "Annie" is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family and home in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy."
