Exhibition Lecture - Weird, Wild & Wonderful: From Field to Print: Botanical Art and Photography for Conifers Around the World and the Dendrological Atlas
Dr. Zsolt Debreczy and Dr. István Rácz, International Dendrological Research Institute, have made it their life's work to identify, record, and document the species and habitats of woody plants, trees, shrubs and vines throughout the world. Their efforts during the past 30 years have resulted in several thousand drawings, 270,000 photographs and 85,000 color transparencies of 80,000 different plant samples represented by 460,000 specimens. In 2011 they published Conifers Around the World, edited by Kathy Musial, Curator, Living Collections and Collections Manager, at The Huntington. The two-volume (14 pound!) set contains 1,300 botanical illustrations and more than 3,700 color photographs. Their international work on some of the most endangered vegetation types on earth continues as they prepare the Dendrological Atlas, Vols. 14. Their keynote is being generously underwritten by The Huntington.
