SF Popfest presents #poundsign, Yea-Ming and the Rumours, Arts and Leisure
"Poundsign pulls, both effectively and inconspicuously, from some of indie pop's most seminal sounds; Wavelength's male/female vocal organizations and underlying jangle are as indie as it gets, but the album's dreamy layers of synths and electronics suggest that the band is as informed by projects like Magnetic Fields as it is by pop bands like Holiday. The result is a collection of chirpy, catchy, Casio-loving pop tunes that usually manage to get past their less-than-distinguished vocal work and move into some very pleasant indie-pop territories. YEA-MING AND THE RUMOURS
Singer-Songwriter for Dreamdate pop band from SF pursues her solo vision.
ARTS & LEISURE
Arts & Leisure combines elements of '60s pop, '70s power pop, and '80s new wave, all of which helps to craft the group's own brand of buzzy, hook-laden dream-pop. The band's lush harmonies and addictive melodies invite comparisons to artists such as The Primitives.
