The Hi-Tone Ramblers' traditional and original music is inspired by American roots music; a melting pot of Anglo and African-rooted songs, rhythms, blues and old-time fiddle and banjo tunes driving and stately, bouncy, quirky and eerily beautiful.
Professionally recorded around single mic, the band's debut release, Inner Space, tips its hat to the days when neighbors gathered to play music in their kitchens and front porches. The Hi-Tone Ramblers draw from the Appalachian String Band repertoire and add their own compositions and arrangements.
TIM ROWELL (BANJO, VOCALS) Winner of several awards from the Lowell Banjo and Fiddle Contest, Tim has a bachelor's degree in music composition, and has studied music theory at The Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. Tim is the director of the Traditional Music Project @ The Real School of Music, where also teaches banjo, mandolin, ukulele, dulcimer, and piano.
CATHY MASON (FIDDLE) Cathy performs at dances and other events all over the East coast and South with her bands, The Rhythm Method String Band, Grand Bois Cajun Band and The Dead Sea Squirrels, as well as with other musicians. She has won at the Lowell Fiddle and Banjo contest, and been on the staff at several dance/music camps.
BETHANY WEIMAN (CELLO, VOCALS) An Iowa native, Bethany has been playing cello since age seven. She studied classical music, jazz improvisation, composition, arrangement, and Latin hand percussion while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Augustana College in Illinois. She discovered Old-Time music after moving to Boston in 2004 to attend the Berklee College of Music. She now teaches cello and performs with a variety of area orchestras, chamber groups, singer-songwriters, and old time bands.
TIM FITZPATRICK (GUITAR, VOCALS) Tim has performed at festivals with Bluegrass bands, in sessions with Irish fiddlers, and in all sorts of folk venues as an accompanist and featured artist. In any setting listeners appreciate his powerful singing and solid rhythm guitar playing.
