PAQUITA
Holt Ballet Conservatory will present Paquita June 12 and 13,  2015 at 7 pm. at the Baggett Theatre in Grass Valley, California. Set in Napoleonic Spain, the ballet tells the story of Spanish aristocrats, gypsies, and forbidden love. Professionally designed set backdrops, stunningly beautiful costumes, and Holt's tasteful choreography will bring this stunning ballet to life.

PAQUITA is one of classical ballet's most beautiful, playful, and engaging ballets.  Rarely produced in its original form since its opening in 1846, it has recently been reconstructed by the Paris Opera Ballet in its full splendor.  Holt Ballet uses the original choreography and music and brings all three scenes to life to delight the audiences of Nevada County.  Beautiful sets by Pamela Hodges and Tom Taylor, costumes by European costume designers, and dancing by guest professionals Nora Heiber and Kermit Allen and Holt Ballet beginning through advanced students, the show is great entertainment for the whole family.

Set in Spain in 1812, the story unfolds around Paquita, a young maiden who was lost as a child and raised by the gypsies.  Paquita falls in love with one of Napoleon's aristocratic lieutenants, but she cannot marry him because she has no family history or noble lineage. Inigo, the chief of the gypsies, is passionately in love with her and seeks to destroy Paquita and Lucien's secret love. Full of humor, plot twists, and gypsy music, the ballet plays out in vibrant colors and happy endings!
