Do you want to learn how to make traditional Jewish foods from scratch? Go out into nature and find your medicine and food? Create everything yourself for your Shabbat table including your candles and pickles?

If you're interested in creating a sustainable, Jewish, self-sufficient lifestyle, come join our experienced teachers for our first series of Hebrew Homesteading classes!

Classes are priced at a sliding scale. Please take a moment to consider the value of these offerings to you, and pay as much as you are able. It supports a great cause!

CLASS 1: Learn How to Bake Challah with Lisa Schachter-Brooks

Thursday, March 3rd from 7-10PM in North Oakland

Challah is our most delicious Shabbat and holy day ritual object.  Learn the art of challah baking with a consciousness of both the ingredients and the spiritual elements of this traditional food preparation.  Gluten free and vegan recipes will also be shared.
Bubbe's Chicken Soup and Maztah Balls with Alix Wall

CLASS 2: Thursday, March 24th from 6:30-9PM in North Oakland

There's a reason why chicken soup is often referred to as "the Jewish penicillin." As we prepare for Pesach, learn how to make a nourishing, delicious organic, free-range chicken soup that rivals your grandmother's. Matzah balls included.

CLASS 3: Edible and Medicinal Plants of Redwood Regional Park with Jolie Egert

Sunday, April 17th from 1-4PM at Redwood Regional Park

Do you want to connect with nature more fully? Do you wonder what fun and fabulous plants are growing at your feet? The Bay Area is home to some of the finest wild edible and medicinal plants due to in part to our Mediterranean climate. Because our ancestors lived in a Mediterranean climate similar to the Bay Area, some  of the plants that are woven into our Jewish stories and culture have close relatives growing in the Bay Area. Join ethnobotanist Jolie Egert for a fun and inspirational guided walk that explores the edible, medicinal and useful plants of Redwoods Regional Park in Oakland.  and hear their stories.
