Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Every 2nd Monday of the month @ 8pm at El Rio.
The next show is Monday, March 14th and features Carla Clayy, Karen Ripley, Erin Souza, Samson Koletkar, and Lisa Geduldig.
Carla Clayy is a native San Franciscan who has spent the last several years making people laugh all over the country. She won the Marshall's Women in Comedy Competition in 2001 and was awarded a guest spot at its Marin County show, sharing the stage with Paula Poundstone, Joy Behar, and Rene Hicks. Carla is a regular at The Punchline and Cobb's and comedy clubs in such hotspots as Modesto and Chico and has shared the stage with Robin Williams.
Karen Ripley queer comic and improv master, has been featured on LOGO TV's "Wisecracks." Her comedy comes from her life experiences, from the "bluest lesbian jokes" to the most thought provoking political insights. Her laid back style will relax and then surprise with a one liner that will cause your head to fly back and your mouth will open. Intense sounds of laughter will rise up from your diaphragm and you will be loaded with endorphins. Effects have been known to last for days. And when you repeat Karen's jokes to your friends the effects start all over again. She began her comedy career in 1977 (34 years ago!) in the heyday of the GLBT comedy movement in San Francisco and now appears regularly at clubs, colleges, cruises, and festivals around the country.
Erin Souza is a transgendered comic who grew up in the east bay and began performing when she was still a he, at junior college speech competitions. A former Miss Transgender San Francisco, Erin has performed at pageants and events in the transgender community and local comedy showcases. She has performed improv with the Next Stage and with Pan Theater. When she isn't performing or traveling to exotic locales, Erin does administrative work for a health maintenance organization whose name rhymes with miser. Erin is Catholic so she is not available for bar mitzvahs, but is available for first communions, quinceñeras and corporate events.
Samson Koletkar is the world's only Indian Jewish Standup Comedian. Born and raised in Mumbai, Koletkar brings a refreshingly smart approach to comedy. With a Masters degree in Computer Software, he moved to San Francisco to work in IT, before making the switch to comedy. Winner of the 2010 Asian American Theater Company's Tight Ten Comedy Competition, Koletkar has entertained audiences in India, Canada and throughout the U.S. He has also toured with Pundits with Punchlines, Make Chai Not War, and Funatical Comedy Tour. Samson has been featured on Asian Jewish Life and Indian Express and HumDesi Radio (Canada) and CBS. He produces and hosts "Comedy Off Broadway Oakland" where 3 nights a week he brings together some of the best comics from San Francisco Bay Area and beyond for a hilarious night of comedy and laughter. He is also the creator of "Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour" www.mahatma-moses.com a nationally touring show that has played to sold out audiences in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Reno, & Atlanta.
