WFMU presents The Wonderful World of Industrial Musicals
Steve Young and Sport Murphy, authors of "Everything's Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals," share some of the most wonderfully bizarre corporate musical films ever made. These ephemeral productions (mostly from the 1960s and '70s) were never meant to be seen by the general public; only company insiders at sales meetings and conventions could experience these startling infotainments, packed with catchy songs about textiles, bathtubs, Ford tractors, and corrosion-free Silicone.
It's an evening of excruciatingly rare films from Citgo, Kellogg's, American-Standard, Purina, General Electric and more, presented with Steve and Sport's entertaining commentary. You'll leave the screening with a heart full of song and an overwhelming urge to get out there and sell something!
