"The Glass Menagerie"
A memory play, narrated by character Tom Wingfield, Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" reminisces on the lives of his mother and sister.  The play is set in St. Louis, during 1937 in their tenement apartment.  Tom's mother, Amanda, was raised in the South, a product of old money and genteel affectations.
Amanda is obsessed with finding a suitor for Laura who is pathologically shy and approaching spinsterhood.  Laura's reality revolves around her collection of glass animals and avoiding contact with strangers.  Her brother Tom is a frustrated writer, who supports his mother and sister with a menial warehouse job.
Tom brings home Jim, a potential suitor, as a dinner guest, but their hopes a crushed when Jim reveals his engagement.
"The Glass Menagerie" is directed by Alexandra Carlyle Clark and runs February 25  March 13, 2011, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM at Sky Valley Education Center, 17072 Tye St., Monroe.
