Introduction to Heartmath and the Art of Appreciation -- Dixie Ridge -- in Atascadero
HeartMath is a technique that its enthusiasts believe has helped many people to optimize their health, mood, emotional state, and decision making. This technique works by combining both your breathing and your heartbeat. After all, your heart and your breathing affects your body neurologically, biochemically, biophysically, and energetically.

The instructor will present a set of skills that may help you shift  counter-productive emotions or thoughts to a more productive state. She will explain how to bring your heart and mind into "coherece."  You will learn the "applied appreciation" technique that involves quickly transforming any counter-productive thinking with a "freeze-frame and cut-through" process.

You will have an opportunity to use a bio-feedback monitor to measure your "coherence" and to play games using your breath to control the game.  You will share community activities that can help to balance your mind and heart.  And you will learn about "heart intelligence" and "the power of appreciation."

For the past 12 years, Dixie Ridge has been the youth education director at Unity San Luis Obispo where for the past ten years, she has been incorporating HeartMath into the curriculum.  She facilitated a weekly wellness class for adults for several years, teaching numerous healing modalities and philosophies (including HeartMath).  She has taught numerous HeartMath classes and workshops throughout San Luis Obispo County and uses HeartMath techniques daily in her life. She attended Cal Poly, was a journalist, has taught in an alternative open classroom setting.
