"The Children Act" by Ian McEwan.
Fiona Maye is a leading High Court judge in London, presiding over cases in the family court where she is renowned for her fierce intelligence, preciseness and sensitivity. Her private life is a different story, she has a lingering regret of never having children, and now, her marriage of thirty years is crumbling.
She is called on to try an urgent case: for religious reasons, a seventeen-year-old boy, Adam, is refusing medical treatment that could save his life, and his parents share his wishes.
