Part and Parcel
The Mid to West Dance Collective presents Part & Parcel, an evening of dances that investigate a variety of questions including how we label and categorize the world around us, how we confront and resist external and majority forces, how we build relationships and structures, and how we defy or conform to societal pressure.
With four pieces created by each separate choreographer, the works make evident the shared genealogy of the artists. And yet, their content and style make each choreographer distinct, forging an evening of motley, divergent worlds in which the dancers struggle for alignment with these questions.
Andrew Merrell, of the Oakland-based company Stranger Lover Dreamer, observes that "despite subject and ideas changing with each piece and choreographer, an attention to detail, human quirk, intellectual questioning, embodied performances, and refined specificity remained throughout."
Part & Parcel is the second Mid To West Dance Collective production. The evening will feature new choreography by Sarah Chenoweth, Rebecca Chun, Mo Miner, and Kate Vigmostad.
