Sculpture Demonstration in Clay with Antonio Bilotta
Calabrese Sculptor Antonio Bilotta will demonstrate his portrait sculpting techniques in clay at Brooklyn Workshop Gallery.
Examples of Bilotta's sculpture may be seen on Facebook under the page Workshop Gallery Artists Foundation. WGAF is the sponsor of the exhibit and demonstration.
Workshop Gallery Artists Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit corporation to promote and facilitate the process of keeping traditional craft alive and vibrant in our world. WGAF encourages the interpretation and expression of such through the individual artisan. Our mission is to seek individuals from the next generation of promising craft artisans -- to help identify what they may need as individuals to expand their skills and craft and to assist them where possible. To this end, WGAF fund-raises for scholarship and support. Additionally we expose and engage the public in craft firsthand.
The foundation is housed at Brooklyn Workshop Gallery in Carroll Gardens in a circa 1900 building that was once a coal shop. The gallery is a semi-collective atelier space dedicated to the celebration of cultural expressions through fine art and craft. Exhibition emphasis is on emerging artists with occasional shows of masters who interact with WGAF artists either through direct mentorship and teaching, or through their participation in the curating, mounting and exhibition process.
Both organizations are committed to transparency of processes, the sharing of our philosophies and a welcome to others with creative ideas and outreach. Our doors are open to others in the area in need of short-term space or sponsorship. This commitment to sharing has deepened through the recent economic changes. Indeed, it is through the sharing of ideas, difficulties and solutions that many of our current projects have developed. More and more the model of sharing profit and non-profit, individual space with community space is emerging as a way in which we will go forward, not only out of necessity but also because of the largely immaterial rewards of working in this manner. We believe it is the way of the future.
Come join us in celebrating the wonderful technique of this marvelous sculptor. You can see the show and learn a little bit more about what we do.
