A Contemporary Dance through the Baroque to the 21st Century

The Black Box Theater at Edmonds Community College will feature Karin Stevens' choreographic works and Starry Night Chamber Orchestra, with music spanning the Baroque to the 21st Century- world premiere by Seattle composer/cellist Phillip Peterson of the Grace Experimental Orchestra.

A full evening of 5 works and a world premiere by Karin Stevens Dance, the resident dance company of the Fremont Abbey Arts Center, will be performed on January 27th and 28th, 2011, at 7:30 pm at The Black Box Theater at Edmonds Community College). Originally this concert of dance and live music spanning the Baroque to the 20th Century was conceived and performed in collaboration between Karin Stevens Dance (KSD) and the Glacier Symphony and Chorale of Kalispel, Montana, August 2010 in Whitefish, MT as part the the Festival Amadeus. http://gscmusic.org/concerts/festival-amadeus To complete their 2010 Season at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center, KSD will present in their November 12th and 13th concert the Festival Amadeus repertoire and a new work by Seattle composer/cellist Phillip Peterson, with live music performed by the Seattle based Starry Night Chamber Orchestra.

The concert will be danced by the KSD core-company dancers; Morgan Houghton, Melanie Williams, and Karin Stevens- University of Washington alumni; Amy Daniel and Caprice Abowitt- Cornish College of the Arts alumni; Naphtali Beyleveld and Tori McConnnell- Belhaven College alumni. The music performed live by Starry Night Chamber Orchestra will include works for string orchestra by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Grieg, Corigliano, and Seattle composer Philip Peterson.

About Karin Stevens Dance:
Karin Stevens returned to Seattle to launch KSD in 2008. The company is in residence and a beloved feature at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. The company presents two dance concerts a year at the Fremont Abbey as well as multiple performances around the greater Seattle area and the Northwest region. KSD performs with live musical accompaniment and creates multiple new works with local musicians, composers, visual artists, and fashion designers. Significant past collaborative performances include one with the Montana-based, Glacier Symphony and Chorale, in August 2010, during the Festival Amadeus in Whitefish, MT.
