Melodrama Workout Night
FINAL PHYSICAL THEATRE WORKOUT OF 2010: CELEBRATING SATURNALIA.
Our final physical theatre workout of the year devilishly delves in the spirit of the ancient Roman holiday, Saturnalia. Beginning December 17th, this pagan holiday/festival was the historical pre-curser of the Feast of Fools and the Christmas season featuring gift giving, revelry, misrule, and the reversal of social roles. Death and rebirth. Fool and trickster. Joyous celebration. Post-workout libations.
To stay for the post-workout festivities, please bring your favorite libation and edible treats to share.
MELODRAMA WORKOUTS: It's a dark and stormy night... and you're in it. And may die... Melodrama joins music and drama using spectacle, gesture, pantomime, bold characters and physicality, heros and villains, the struggle of good and evil. The most expressive of the dramatic forms, we play with high stakes and emotions expressing fully in the body. Unlike method based psychological acting, Melodrama is akin to Artaud's "athlete of the emotions." Physical theatre training enables us to express ourselves fully in the body. And with the Grand Guignolers, expect not boring & fun. We do physical theatre and this really is a workout.
