Youth Garden Educator Workshop
WSU is hosting a two-day hands-on Youth Garden Educator Workshop designed for those who work with youth in grades k-5 in a garden setting. We invite Master Gardener Volunteers, 4-H leaders, elementary school teachers and all others in Pierce County who work with youth in gardens to participate in our training.
When: June 27th 9-3:30 & June 28th 9-3:00
Where: WSU Puyallup Research and Extension Center, Allmendinger Conference Center, 2606 West Pioneer Puyallup, WA 98371, Directions: http://puyallup.wsu.edu/directions.html
Topics include: - Preparing your community and planning for a successful youth garden - Practical youth garden design and plant selection tips - Experiential learning model and outdoor classroom management - Connecting garden education with Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards - Garden activity examples - Compost education and compost management in a youth garden - Cooking garden produce with youth - Food safety and youth friendly tools for all skill levels - Participants will leave with a binder full of youth garden resources
Cost: $75 (Free for teachers working at a Title 1 school in 2015-2016)
Registration: Deadline June 12th
****Pending approval,teachers will receive Clock Hours from PSESD
Light refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own bag lunch
