Youth Mental Health First Aid - Forsyth County
CenterPoint Human Services and the Mental Health Association in Forsyth County are jointly sponsoring a "Youth Mental Health First Aid" (YMHFA) training in Forsyth County on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 7 and 8, 2015 at Goodwill Industries, 2701 University Parkway,Winston-Salem, NC in their Central Meeting Room. Trainings for both dates (April 7 and 8) are from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.
YMHFA is an 8 hour educational training which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, ages 12-18. This training will teach adult participants how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. YMHFA teaches participants how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social and self-help care. Participants do not learn to diagnose, nor provide therapy.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults who interact with adolescents such as: parents, teachers, school staff, coaches, youth group leaders, clergy, probation officers, court counselors, and non-licensed human service professionals.
