Alzheimer's is topping many national conversations following this year's Oscars: Best Actress to Julianne Moore for poignantly portraying a wife and mother with dementia and a nomination for Glen Campbell's heart-rending song about living with Alzheimer's, the last song he will ever record.
Now Seattle brings this conversation home with two evenings of the award-winning drama: The MemoryCare Plays on May 8 and 9 at Taproot's Isaac Studio Theatre. Dr. Soo Borson, Professor Emerita at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a dementia specialist, will facilitate a conversation with the audience after the plays to educate and bring an emotional connection to the realities associated with memory loss.
The evening includes staged readings of three one-act plays by professional actors from Taproot Theatre. Each one speaks to the humanity, dignity and love that go hand-in-hand with the journey of loving and caring for family members with memory loss.
The event is co-produced by Taproot Theatre, Full Life Care and Phinney Neighborhood Association/Greenwood Senior Center. Our thanks to Full Life Care-Premiere Sponsor, Careforce and Aegis Living-Gold Sponsors, and the Alzheimer's Association and Merrill Gardens at First Hill-Silver Sponsors. Communication partners include: Elderwise, Frye Art Museum, Seattle Parks & Recreation, Senior Services, Virginia Mason Neuroscience Institute and University of Washington Brain and Wellness Center.
