Set in 1953 in a small town in Kansas, the play centers on Hal, an attractive young stranger who drifts into town just before the annual Labor Day picnic. When he meets Madge, the town beauty, and her brainy sister, Millie, a chain of events starts that changes the town for better...and for worse.
